Port Scores Explained

At the end of each port report, the port is given a score out of five stars. This score is not objective; it is based entirely on my preferences and personal experiences with the port.

For example, even if a title has everything I want in a PC game, I will never give it a perfect score if it uses a launcher to change graphics settings because I personally do not like launchers. As another example, even if a port receives five stars, it may not support your preferred controller since I don’t test every controller.

I want to make port scores as accurate as possible, but aiming for pure objectivity would be chasing after the impossible. Your PC is different to mine, so there’s always a good chance you’ll have a different experience.

The following points are reasons why a port may receive a certain score:

  • ★★★★★
    • Basically perfect
    • Minimal external configuration, if any
    • One or two non-critical features absent
    • Some external configuration (e.g., config file editing)
    • Several non-critical features absent
    • One critical feature absent
    • Considerable external configuration
    • Poor performance
    • More than one critical feature absent
    • Awful performance
    • Broken
